14 years ago I was taking care of my elderly mother who was ill when I found a lump in my breast. My COBRA had just lapsed and I was terrified. Then I called the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Program. The hotline volunteer (herself a survivor) calmed my nerves, reassured me and told me what steps to take. The program’s social workers, Lois and Angela guided me through a very difficult time in my life. They held my hand through surgeries, chemo, radiation and every other bump in the road of my breast cancer journey. The Adelphi Breast Cancer Program has been my lifeline and although I’m now a volunteer with the program, Lois and Angela are still always there for me. My family and I will be forever grateful for the love and support I received from them and the program. I don’t know where I’d be without them.
